“Every blade of grass has its angel that bends over it and whispers, 'grow, grow.' ” Midrash Rabba, Bereshit 10:6.

I feel as though I should be preparing this announcement in two separate communications: One for my friends and peers over 50 and one for you “youngsters” among us who are under 50; one for those of you whose DNA includes alphabet soup initials like HTML, IT, DOS, RAM and PDA, and the other for people like me who are still in awe by the technological leap forward represented by email!

But whatever your orientation and your take on technology, the likelihood is high that you’ll feel good about our Federation’s newest giant step forward into the future: I’m very pleased to tell you that effective immediately, the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County has hit the “reset button” on our community website and gone from a static, one way conversation in our former site to being on the cusp of what all websites will someday become. We think that’s a big deal for our community and after you explore and interact with it (and us), we hope you’ll agree.

Our professional staff has worked quite hard to provide new dynamic and easy to use entry points for all of us so that we can have meaningful two-way conversations with each other, with our synagogues, with our agency partners, and with other Jewish individuals and families that currently live in , or are considering moving to, Palm Beach County.

As you travel through our new site, you’ll see that a lot of thought has gone into making it not just easy to use, but as they say, “intuitive.” For instance, if you look at the Home Page, you’ll find that everything means something, everything connects, and that you have multiple ways to engage, connect, get information, and participate in the life of our community…whatever your interests are. Want to see what’s going on in the area? Check out our community calendar of events. (You can even register for whatever interests you online too!)

You can see a pilot of something new that’s currently under development and will be activated in the next few months…an electronic newspaper called The Community Post, which will serve as a community resource and gathering place to share information and celebrate our successes together.

Take a spin through our Multi Media Gallery, which will provide an ongoing snapshot of what’s happening in our community. We’ve also been able to make Mosaic TV programming and current videos available that show the strength and diversity of our Jewish community.

For the techies among you, think of this new website as “Community 2.0.” For all of you, please know that we are proactively investing in this kind of technology in order to improve and enhance the way you engage with Federation; to position our agency partners and synagogues as the heart and soul of our community; to reinforce and extend some of the positive relationships you’ve enjoyed in the past; and to create opportunities to get more of you interested and involved in this wonderful community we call home.

We hope you like this exciting new digital presence we’ve put together, and want to hear what you think. And remember, it’s only “interactive” if you use it, so please let us hear from you by sending your comments and ideas for future development to: communitypost@jewishpalmbeach.org
