A Family Life Program: Prepare for Israel Advocacy on College Campuses

11th and 12th graders -- and their parents -- are invited to get prepared for Israel Advocacy on college campuses at a four-part family life program based on the "Step Up 4 Israel" curriculum at Temple Shaarei Shalom, 9085 Hagen Ranch Road in Boynton Beach.

All sessions meet on Wednesdays from 6:45-8:15 p.m.

The current course schedule includes:

October 17: "Crossing the Line"

Is anti-Israel rhetoric a form of anti-Semitism? This session will examine anti-Zionism on college campuses and beyond. Participants will explore what drives anti-Semitism, analyzing the recurring themes and common points of contention.

October 24: "Creation of a State"

This session will help participants understand Israel's legitimacy through an examination of events that led to the establishment of the State of Israel and the 1948 War of Independence. Claims against the formation of Israel's current borders by exploring the facts surrounding the 1967 Six Day War and the resulting Arab Khartoum agreement will be addressed. A short film by Jerusalem's Center for Public Affairs, "Israel's Critical Security Needs for a Viable Peace," will be shown.

November 7: Analyzing How Israel is Portrayed in the Media

This seminar will examine case studies of events  unfolding in Israel and how various news media around the world have covered them. The audience will learn to read between the lines, question and analyze the motives and messages of the media.

November 14: The Israeli Society on the Screen

Explore Israeli culture througout the years via Israeli TV and cinema. An interactive discussion will make everybody laugh as we discuss and begin to understand the complexity of  Israeli society,
