AJFCS & AmeriCorps Volunteers
Can you help with someone's grocery shopping? Meal preparation?
Transportation? Laundry and light housekeeping?
Become an AmeriCorps volunteer through the Ferd & Gladys Alpert Jewish Family & Children's Service (AJFCS) and work as part of the safety net provided across Palm Beach County.
AmeriCorps volunteers assist with seniors' optimal quality of life, particularly aging-in-place. More than 80 percent of gated communities do not have provisions for this simple benefit in place. Often, older adults become isolated due to a lack of local family members and transportation, as well as limited access to the outside world and services. Those in need of help often don't know where to turn.
Increased home-based services to frail and low-income seniors are among our community's most-pressing, ever-increasing demands. Federation, its partners and donors all work together to save and better the lives of our extended Jewish family members. Together we are delivering a warm embrace to our elderly. Local programs help them live independently, with dignity and joy.
AJFCS, a partner agency of the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County, has been a beneficiary of a federal AmeriCorps program grant for years, training scores of individuals who volunteer nine hours a week (450 hours per year). Upon completion of 450 hours, each volunteer will receive a $1,250 Educational Award, which can be used at eligible educational institutions.
