Teens plant memorial garden for IDF soldier & friend to Jewish Palm Beach
In August 2014 – during an escalating conflict between Israel and Gaza – an IDF soldier was reported around the world as being kidnapped.
But days later, the IDF informed the family of Second Lt. Hadar Goldin that he was not captured – he had been killed.
The news resonated with the global Jewish community – particularly members of our community. Hadar's sister, Ayelet Goldin Kaufman, is a frequent visitor to Jewish Palm Beach and the Living Bridge Coordinator for Federation's Partnership 2Gether.
Teens at Temple Beth Torah in Wellington decided to pay tribute to Hadar, a brave soldier and friend to our community, with a meaningful mitzvah project. They planted a memorial citrus garden in memory of Hadar, whose name in Hebrew translates to "citrus tree."
This Hanukkah, while Ayelet is in our area with Young Ambassadors from Israel, the teens will present the garden to her. Ayelet will also share her family's heartbreaking experience and tales of the overwhelming support they received from our community and beyond.
