Statement on Terror Attack at Kosher Store near Paris

Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County stands in solidarity with the people of France during this painful and frightening time.

We are grieving with our global Jewish community after heartbreaking reports of innocent people killed in a hostage situation at a kosher grocery store near Paris. Our deepest condolences, hopes and prayers are with the families of the victims, the French people and the Jewish community of France during this difficult time.

Today’s horrific situation comes in the wake of several recent terrorist attacks against innocent people, including a senseless, heinous massacre at a French newspaper exercising the freedom of expression – an ideal treasured in democratic society and targeted by extremists.

The attacks perpetrated against the Jewish community in France are symptomatic of the scourge of anti-Semitism that continues to manifest hatred, provocation, incitement and delegitimization that exists in several communities around the world. We call on the leaders of all nations to root out the menace of anti-Semitism and demonization and to prosecute those who commit crimes motivated by extremism to the full extent of the law.

These terrorist attacks were carried out by intolerant individuals who posed a threat to civil societies everywhere. We strongly support and reaffirm our common values of freedom and peace, and we stand with the Government of France and efforts to prevent future acts of extremism and terrorism.

Our hearts and our prayers go out to the French people at this time of great sorrow for their country.
We pray for a time of peace and safety for all Jewish people.
