Mandel JCC Preschoolers Celebrate Israel Independence Day

Preschoolers at Mandel JCC’s Barbara and Jack Kay Early Childhood Learning Center in Palm Beach Gardens celebrated Israel Independence Day with a Festival of Israeli Dances on May 6, 2014.

Children, from toddlers to four-year-olds, performed 15 traditional Israeli dances in front of more than 150 family and friends.

The special performance was the culmination of the children’s year-long immersion into Israeli dance, where they honed their skills during a lesson each week. Each class performed two dances choreographed to music, with all the children joining together for a three-song finale. The dances were choreographed by Maynu Peter, who has more than 20 years of experience in Israeli folk dancing. Children danced to songs such as “B’Medinath HaGamadim” (In the Land of the Little Ones) and “Od Yavoh Shalom” (Peace Will Come).

“Our intention is that Israel will be experienced on a daily basis, in order to seamlessly create powerful images and representations in the minds and hearts of our children, allowing them to create a strong bond with the ‘Israel of the imagination,’” shared Veronica Maravankin.

The Festival of Israeli Dances was sponsored by Partners in Women’s Health and Pediatric & Adult Dentistry of the Palm Beaches.
