Federation Responds to PCUSA Decision
Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County expresses fervent disappointment in the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) decision to divest from three American companies based on their sales to Israel.
Though the margin of approval was narrow (310 votes to 303), the decision is still
disheartening and worrisome.
The decision was made to manipulate Israeli policy and comes on the heels of the PCUSA’s distribution of the pamphlet “Zionism Unsettled” – a document that assaults Israel’s legitimacy and is offensive to Israel, Judaism and the Jewish people.
We know from the vote and from our own experience that not all members of the Presbyterian community agree with the General Assembly’s decision. We will continue to reach out to the local Presbyterian community to continue the longstanding, open dialogue and cooperation we have always enjoyed.
Federation hopes for the eventual overturning of the divestment from companies
that support the world’s only Jewish state.
Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County works to enrich Jewish life, care for vulnerable populations and build global Jewish community.
