Youth Futures-Bonim Summer Camp Provides a Meaningful Summer Experience

Fun...sports...English-language learning. These are just some of the activities enjoyed by 70 at-risk children in Tzfat, one of Federation's partnered cities in the Tzahar Region in Israel's northern Galilee, who are participating in the first-ever Youth Futures-Bonim Summer Camp.

Twenty-two volunteer counselors and six trustees are working closely with the children, providing personal attention.

The counselors are in Israel as part of Federation's Bonim Fellows mission, a highly subsidized seven-day trip that provides a secondary Israel experience for teens in grades 10-11 who have already traveled on a previous Federation or other approved program. The trustees are Youth Futures mentors, paired with at-risk children to help improve their self-image, access community resources and ensure a positive future. As many of the campers take care of younger siblings at an early age, provisions have been made for the younger group. Transportation and light meals are provided for all.

This initiative is making a world of difference in the lives of our local teens who are participating in this leadership experience, and the at-risk children who will gain immeasurably from this summer camp experience in both the long- and short-term.

We believe this is the start of great things to come!
