The JCC of the Palm Beaches will welcome -- via live satellite telecast -- four impressive, intriguing and influential speakers in 2012 as part of the New York City-based 92nd Street Y Lectures and Conversations Series, who will share their stories. Guests can submit questions to the speakers in real time.

Walter Isaccson

Tuesday, January 24, 8:00 p.m. -- BallenIsles Country Club, Palm Beach Gardens

Walter Isaacson, author of a new Steve Jobs biography, discusses the significance of Jobs’ contributions to the business world and explains how his drive revolutionized six industries. Isaacson is the cchief executive officer of the Aspen Institute, former chairman of CNN and managing editor of Time magazine. The event is moderated by Rick Stengel, managing editor of Time magazine.


Mandy Patinkin

Monday, February 6, 8:00 p.m. -- Ross JCC, Boynton Beach

Mandy Patinkin will discuss his more than 35-year career, which encompasses theater, film, television, recordings and the concert stage. The award-winning actor has performed in Broadway hits including Evita, The Secret Garden and Sunday in the Park with George. The evening is moderated by essayist and author Thane Rosenbaum.


Gloria Steinem

Tuesday, February 28, 8:00 p.m. -- BallenIsles Country Club, Palm Beach Gardens and Ross JCC, Boynton Beach

Acclaimed author Gloria Steinem, talks about her travels as a feminist organizer, lecturer and frequent media spokeswoman on issues of equality, peace and justice. Steinem co-founded Ms. Magazine, and is the founding president of the Ms. Foundation for Women. Her books include “Outrageous Acts” and “Everyday Rebellions”. The event is moderated by Budd Mishkin, host and reporter for NY1’s weekly profile series, One on 1 with Budd Mishkin.

Sandra Day O’Connor

Thursday, March 15, 8:00 p.m. -- BallenIsles Country Club, Palm Beach Gardens and Ross JCC, Boynton Beach


Sandra Day O’Connor served as the first female justice for the U.S. Supreme Court for 24 years, often casting the deciding vote in landmark decisions during her tenure,. Justice O’Connor will discuss her civics education project, along with her extraordinary career and what attributes, skills and approaches are necessary for success. The event is moderated by Stephen Adler, editor–in–chief at “Reuters News” and executive vice president of news at Thomson Reuters.

Mark Bittman

Tuesday, April 10, 8:00 p.m. --BallenIsles Country Club, Palm Beach Gardens

With take-out counters, microwave meals and other conveniences, Mark Bittman asks, “Why cook?” The author of the best-selling “How to Cook Everything” series and “Food Matters” was The New York Times “Minimalist” columnist for 13 years, now writing for its magazine and op-ed page, and is a frequent guest on the Today show. The event is moderated by Ruth Reichl, critically acclaimed best–selling author, former food editor–in–chief for Gourmet and restaurant critic for The New York Times.


Madeleine Albright

Thursday, May 3, 8:00 p.m. -- BallenIsles Country Club, Palm Beach Gardens and Ross JCC, Boynton Beach

In her new and most personal book, “Prague Winter: A Personal Story of Remembrance and War 1937-1948,” former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright looks at her family’s experiences during this tumultuous time in history surrounding World War II.

Albright’s distinguished career also includes positions on Capitol Hill, the National Security Council and as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Albright is the author of “Madam Secretary, Memo to the President Elect,” “The Mighty and the Almighty” and “Read My Pins.”
