As the capital campaign to build the Mandel JCC in Palm Beach Gardens moves forward, a recent pledge of $1 million from Bente S. and the late Daniel M. Lyons will be used to build the facility's gallery, a glass-enclosed space that will be used for art presentations, receptions, meetings and other prominent events.

"A JCC is the best way to bring the community together for art, music, basketball, films, children's events, lectures, shows and more,"said Bente S. Lyons. "Daniel and I felt very good about contributing to the JCC because we beileive in its mission and purpose, recognizing the value it can have to children and those of all ages in our community."

Construction of The Mandel JCC, named in honor of The Mandel Foundation, Jack zl, Joseph and Morton Mandel, a new, 56,000-square-foot building, located on Hood Road just west of Central Boulevard, will begin later this spring, with a scheduled opening next summer. Among the amenities: an early childhood learning center and summer day camp, an 11,000-square-foot full-size gymnasium with two basketball courts, a pool and aquatics center, sports fields, a ropes course, space for functional and group fitness courses, as well as adult programming, bridge, lectures and children's programming (including those with special needs).

"The Lyons' are true 'mensches' in every sense of the word. They are humble, devoted and have lent their considerable time and talents to ensure the success of our Jewish community," said JCC President Paul Gross. "They were among the first committed to building the new JCC, without even seeing renderings; just recognizing that our community needed a Jewish Community Center. They have changed lives locally and globally. It's inspiring."

"Daniel was such a brilliant man, and their remarkable insight was known by all,"added Stacey K. Levy, a past president of the JCC. "It has been a great honor to call them my friends."
