Step Up for Israel

The Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County’s Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) has embarked on a major grassroots Israel education campaign designed to create broad awareness of the growing anti-Israel and anti-Semitic movement on college campuses around the country. The campaign serves as the continuation of a project that began in early 2011 aimed at counteracting the BDS (boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel) movement, which has been promoted by Palestinian groups and their allies.

JCRC is partnering with organizations around the country to distribute a special five-part video series called “Step Up for Israel” to synagogues, Jewish organizations and clubs in the United States. Produced by Jerusalem Online University, each video presents a different topic followed by a guided discussion. The videos are organized as follows:

  • Entitled “Crossing the Line,” this introductory video focuses on the growing anti-Israel sentiments on college campuses and provides the viewer with background and a better understanding of the situation.
  • The second video presents Israel as a country that values freedom, education, family and responsibility and shows how Israel has contributed to the world through technology, media and other accomplishments.
  • The third part presents Israel as a democratic nation that epitomizes Western values.
  • The final two videos examine the events that led to the establishment of the State of Israel following the War of Independence (1948) and provide viewers with effective tools for speaking on Israel’s behalf and countering adverse claims made against Israel.

Temple Israel, Temple Beth El, the Jewish Community Center of the Greater Palm Beaches, Temple Beth David, Palm Beach Orthodox, Temple Emanu-El, Hadassah and The Valencia Isles community have already signed up for the program. The series will also be shown to students that partake in the Federation’s Jewish Teen Initiative (JTI) as well as to Hillel Students. Finally, JCRC is planning a major luncheon to show part of the program to non-Jewish leaders in Palm Beach County and around South Florida. More organizations and groups are expected to join the program by ordering the “Step Up for Israel” videos. Participation in the program is at no cost to the synagogues or organizations. Please contact 561-242-6671 or for additional information.

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon

Counteract Anti-Israel Campaign

The Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County’s Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) consistently joins with other prominent Jewish organizations and leaders in Florida to meet with local and influential Evangelical clergymen. The goal of these meetings is always to continue efforts for cooperation between the Evangelical and Jewish communities and to help counteract the anti-Israel campaign.

During the summer, JCRC held two major events: a luncheon for Evangelical leaders and a program featuring Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon. During the Evangelical luncheon meeting, JCRC stressed the importance of the Evangelical community advocating for Israel outside the borders of the United States – especially in Third World countries where Evangelical churches are expanding and have the opportunity to support Israel in international forums, including the United Nations. This idea of pressing the local Evangelical community to advocate on behalf of Israel and the Jews was first brought forth by JCRC and has since been embraced by the Israeli government, according to Pastor Mario Bramnick, who travelled to Israel in November 2011 and met with Prime Minister Netanyahu.
