Barbara Kay

Barbara Kay may be a local icon due to her decades of work in the greater Palm Beaches (and as the host of Mosaic), but the impact she makes with her planned giving is on a global scale.

Through the Barbara kay and Family fund with Jewish Community Foundation, Barbara and her family are teaching thousands of disadvantaged children, youth and adults throughout Israel to learn how to live healthier lives through proper nutrition, exercise and healthy habits that will last them a lifetime.

The Barbara Kay and Family Foundation supports the Nutrition Enrichment and Healthy Living Program for at-risk children, which serves to reverse the rising amount of Israeli children who are overweight. Many of these children come from at-risk immigrant populations, impoverished homes and families with special needs.

The program, operated through Federation’s global partner the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, provides thousands of children, youth and adults from diverse communities throughout Israel with a spectrum of programs promoting proper nutrition, dental care and regular exercise.

Through their support of this inspiring initiative, the Kay family has transformed Israeli society, one person at a time.

“This program changed me in so many ways and on so many levels,” said Anat, a young Israeli woman who learned how to lead a healthier lifestyle through the Healthy Living program. “It has opened a window to a new life for me.”

Connie Blacher

The following was written by Connie Blacher, who has secured her legacy with a Lion of Judah Endowment through Jewish Community Foundation. In addition, she and her husband, David, have established an endowment to provide support for the special needs programs at the Mandel JCC.

As a child, I was aware that my mother and dad assisted their parents, my grandparents, on a daily basis by giving them love, affection and financial support. As busy as my dad was working to support our family, he always found time to drive across the city to help his mother with weekly food shopping and other chores. My mother always helped her parents, and her older brother and sister. It was a lesson taught to me every day: “Help the less fortunate.”

My husband, David, and I have found that giving to individuals and charitable organizations has enriched our lives in many ways. My Lion of Judah Endowment at Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County and the Constance & David Blacher Children's Special Needs Fund allows us to eternally perpetuate our support of those less fortunate.

Learn about gift planning strategies that fit your lifestyle and goals.

Jewish Community Foundation professionals will work with you and your advisors to craft the giving plan that works best for your life, lifestyle, and legacy goals. We will guide you fully through the easy process of protecting your interests and ensuring your legacy.
We encourage you to consult your personal legal, tax or finacial advisor when considerating a charitable donation.

Include a Bequest in Your Will
A simple bequest in is the most common option for creating a legacy.

Name Federation, agency or synagogueas the Beneficiary of Your IRA or Retirement Plan
Your IRA or retirement plan can be subject to high estate and income taxes, leaving precious few dollars for your heirs. When planning your legacy for charity, always consider using these assets first. The more you can save on your tax bill, the more your heirs will stand to inherit from you.

Establish a Charitable Income Plan
A Charitable Remainder Trust or Charitable Gift annuity today, provides tax benefits to you or a loved one with needed current income while creating a means to provide a charitable legacy for tomorrow.

Create Your Legacy Today with an Outright Gift of Cash, Stock or Other Property
Take advantage of immediate income tax benefits and create your legacy. Jewish Community Foundation will work with you and your advisors to identify the most tax-efficient way to establish your legacy right away.

Utilize Life Insurance
The gift of a life insurance policy is particularly appealing for younger individuals because of its reasonable cost and tax benefit. When the Jewish Federation is the owner and beneficiary of the policy, the premium payments that you make are tax deductible. If you have an older policy that you no longer need for your family’s protection, you may be able to contribute that policy and realize a tax benefit.
